Head Start & Preschool Teacher Head Start Teacher (8 hrs)
Position Purpose A teacher in our program has the primary responsibility to promote the development and school readiness for all children, including those with special needs, in an engaging, positive, safe, and supportive educational environment. This teacher recognizes parents/guardians as partners in the education of young children and involves them in their children’s school experience.
The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this classification.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities 1. Plans and implements lessons that comply with the Kentucky Academic Standards for Early Childhood, Head Start Outcomes Framework and Performance Standards, NAEYC, funding and regulatory guidelines and program policies.
2. Maintains up-to-date and accurate written records and reports, including, but not limited to: ? assessments, intervention data, progress monitoring, screenings, TS GOLD documentation, COS documentation, documentation of drills and inspections, parent contacts, attendance and attendance concerns, transition documents, health documents, parent/teacher conferences and home visits, and other requested documentation.
3. Strictly adheres to regulations, program policies, and program procedures.
4. Meets deadlines.
5. Changes diapers, pullups, and work to toilet train children as needed.
6. Takes the initiative to plan, organize, and facilitate family engagement opportunities for families whose children are enrolled in their classroom.
7. Provides guidance, oversight, and support to other adults working/volunteering in the classroom.
8. Ensures child-staff ratio is maintained at all times.
9. Maintains a clean and sanitary environment in the classroom and all extensions of the classroom.
10.Actively supervises and monitors children at all times and responds appropriately to crisis or emergency situations that may occur.
11.Establishes a positive classroom climate.
12.Guides the behavior of children in positive and effective ways (in accordance with state/federal laws, CLASS, the Pyramid Model, TPOT, Star rating requirements, etc.
13.Follows an approved schedule which includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, individualized learning, skill development, meals and effective transitions between activities and locations.
14.Encourages exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization and choice-making; Asks open-ended questions and follow-up questions to promote further learning and critical thinking.
15.Releases children only to authorized adults.
16.Maintains confidentiality in regards to staff, students, and families. ? All communications are potentially sensitive and are subject to confidentiality policies and legal requirements.
17.Works contracted hours and days. Maintains good attendance.
18.Independently and collaboratively analyzes and utilizes data to support continuous improvement for self and students.
19.Prepares the classroom environment and materials to support developmentally appropriate lessons and learning experiences.
20.Coordinates and collaborates with staff, contracted professionals, coaches, and consultants to develop a collaborative approach that benefits all children in the classroom, including those with special needs.
21.Reports suspected/known child abuse.
22.Attends and actively participates in meetings, training, and professional development in their entirety.
23.Engages in ongoing self-assessment, learning, and development.
24.Assists with inventory and care of equipment and supplies.
25.Supports the role of families as the first and primary teachers of their children.
26.Maintain regular communication with families.
27.Provides an inclusive learning environment for all children.
28.Conduct thorough home visits and parent-teacher conferences in accordance with program, state, and federal requirements.
29.Work with families on partnership agreements, goals, follow-ups, and other family services needs. (Applies to those with appropriate credentials).
30.Plan and facilitate/participate in family activities and events.
31.Accurately complete all special education paperwork in a thorough and timely manner. (Applies to those with the appropriate license only).
32.IECE/Special Education teachers provide special education services, monitor progress, and adhere to IEPs, as written, as written in IEPs. Other teachers adhere to the IEP, as written, and collect data to assist with progress monitoring.
33.Other related duties as assigned by school leadership. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Be familiar with Program Performance Standards, the ELOF, and the KAS for early childhood 2. Ability to apply proven approaches to support early childhood development and adapt to the individual needs of children. 3. Ability to make decisions and solve problems in accordance with school, district, state, and federal requirements.
4. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, religions, professional roles, and personalities. 5. Ability to maintain respectful relations and communication with staff, families, children, and community members. 6. Actively supervise young children at all times throughout the school day. 7. Maintain a clean and safe environment. 8. Excellent communication skills, including good listening skills. 9. Ability to read, comprehend, and correctly interpret regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to seek clarification and ask questions in the absence of understanding. 10.Ability to work in an organized and efficient manner. 11.Maintain high standards of professional conduct and ethical behavior.
Other Abilities Required: 12.Sitting, kneeling, stooping, bending, getting on the floor and back up 13.Going up and down steps and ramps 14.Running/fast walking for short distances 15. Lifting up to approximately 50 pounds 16.Driving for home visits and other program related activities 17.Moderate technology skills 18.Classroom and behavior management
Minimum Requirements - ? Preschool - Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (IECE) ? Head Start - Minimum of an Associates Degree in early childhood education
